Boone, Iowa-based Fareway Stores Inc. expandsnot only as a grocery chain, but also as a friend.

On February 9, the retailer celebrated the opening of its newest 11,000 square foot store location at 339 E. High St. in Rockwell City, Iowa, with plans to open four additional stores in Iowa later this year or early next year, as well as locations in Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri.

“The Fareway grocery chain is a friend to rural Iowa. Through this program of opening smaller grocery stores in rural communities, Fareway is helping rural towns have easier access to groceries,” Senator Tim Kraayenbrink said in a statement. “It provides a lifeline for the community, bringing independence and convenience back to our small towns. We are grateful that Fareway fills a huge need.

Fareway CEO Reynolds Cramer said in a statement that “we would like to thank the community for their outstanding support that made this project possible.”

Cramer, who also recently announced the promotion of Jeffrey “Jeff” Stearns as SVP of Marketing and Advertisingsaid Fareway is looking forward to being part of the larger community.

“We look forward to Fareway joining Rockwell City to serve the community locally and become an integral part of the community,” Cramer said in a statement.

The company said the new store offers its customers fresh, high-quality meat, which it touts as “unmatched”; a full-service butcher counter; farm fresh produce; low and competitive prices; and customer service that includes transportation to your car.

Town of Rockwell Mayor Phil Heinlen echoes the positive feedback regarding the store opening, “We are delighted to welcome Fareway to Rockwell City. Area residents were eagerly awaiting the store’s opening,” Heinlen said in a statement. “We would like to thank Fareway for their investment and commitment to making the Rockwell City community vibrant.”
