A POPULAR Thai takeaway business has expanded into new premises to bring customers authentic street food culture.
The owners of May Thai Treats officially opened their new take-out restaurant on Anchor Road, Barrow, on Friday after operating from their family home on Knox Street for the past six years.
The family business is run by husband and wife Lawrence and May Torkington.
They started the business after friends and family, whom May cooked for in Thailand, told her she should turn her skills into a business.
May, who moved to Barrow from Thailand 20 years ago before marrying Laurence in 2004, said they both enjoyed bringing Thai culture to the people of Barrow.
Laurence said: “A few people came in and were excited to try the food. We had great feedback and everyone was very friendly.
“We have been operating from home for six years but have been very popular so we decided to get a separate space and open the store. It’s been really progressive so that more people can come when they want, place an order and take it away.
“We have a few chairs for people to sit and enjoy, but May wanted to do more of a street food style, which is a cultural and traditional thing in the region of Thailand. We are still available on Barrow Eats for delivery or people can also phone the store for delivery.
The couple, who have three children, also distribute lunch boxes, which are available in several stores in Barrow, Dalton, Askam and Ulverston.

Laurence said: “We offer many traditional Thai options including popular favorites Panang Curry, Green Curry and Massaman Curry.
“We also have a special Mays Jungle Curry which is for anyone who likes hot food. He has a kick that has proven to be very popular with customers.
